Every time Dutch Shepherd Wiebe comes home from a walk, he drinks from the pond. As the fish are always fed when Wiebe's owner, Dorri Eijsermans, returns from the walk the fish have eventually associated Wiebe's drinking with feeding time. They have begun to come to the surface to acknowledge his presence. Whilst drinking, Wiebe often gives the carp a kiss.

Rehabilitated harbour seal pups equipped with satellite tags on their heads are released into the waters of Howe Sound at Porteau Cove, B.C. by the Vancouver Aquarium. Five of the seven pups released pups have been equipped with satellite transmitters that will provide the aquarium's Marine Mammal Rescue Centre with information about where the seals go and how they do after returning to the wild. The satellite-linked tags are glued to the seal's hair coat on the animals' heads, and may last anywhere from a couple of weeks to a year.

This grey-headed flying fox catches the last drops of water, at Parramatta Park, Sydney - poking out its little tongue, this bat captures every last drip of water on a scorching hot day. Flying in 40 degree heat, he ensures he catches as much liquid as possible as he tries his best to keep cool. This flying fox was photographed by Australian photographer Ofer Levy, 51, after he spotted it in Parramatta Park, Sydney. 'This grey-headed Flying Fox is licking water drops from its dripping fur after swooping down dipping its belly in the river,' said Ofer. 'This is how these large bats drink'

This buzzard looks like it's given up flying as it goes for a short stroll in pursuit of worms. Only very rarely seen on the ground, let alone walking, the photgraph was taken near Liverpool by wildlife photographer Steve Ward, who had to set up at 6am in his own hide about 25 yards from where he had seen the birds before near Ince Woods, Thornton. They were attracted by digging and posts set up to mark out a new road.

A fist-sized meteorite nicknamed Black Beauty, which could unlock vital clues to the evolution of Mars from the warm and wet place it once was to its current cold and dry state, NASA said. Discovered in Morocco's Sahara Desert in 2011, the 11-ounce space rock contains 10 times more water than other Martian meteorites and could be the first ever to have originated on the planet's surface or crust. According to science magazine Nature released on November 20, 2013 this meteorite is dated 4.4 billion years.

This combination of Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) on NASA's Terra satellite images acquired on April 3, 2004 (TOP) and November 15, 2013(lower) shows before and after Typhoon Haiyan, that struck the Philippines on November 8, 2013, and pounded the island of Leyte with winds near 195 miles per hour and a tremendous storm surge. Plant-covered land is red; urban areas are white and silver; bare ground is tan; and water and shadows are black. From ASTER's wide perspective, it is not possible to see individual city blocks of destroyed buildings. But the subtle differences between the images do reveal a wide-scale disaster; those changes are easiest to see if you turn on the image comparison tool.
