A plucky gull bravely tried to steal this bird of prey's lunch from right under his beak - and won. Feathers flew as the adult black gull took on the young goshawk in the noisy battle over food. Photographer Bill Lomeland said both birds screamed during the scrap, which broke out in Orre, southern Norway.

A man surfs the Belharra giant waves a mile out to sea off the coast of the French Basque country town of Urrugne. Thanks to certain climatic conditions in autumn and winter, a strong swell hits the Belharra Perdun underwater spur, causing a 40 foot wave to form. This wave is only surfed by experts who are towed out by a water scooter.

Ruddy Muddy, whose real name is Rick Minns, has been creating art on white vans for a couple of years. He initially used his fingertips, but has progressed to using cotton buds and tissues for more varied textures.

Firefighters in Ann Arbor worked for several hours in temperatures that dipped to 15 degrees below zero to extinguish a blaze at the pizza shop. No injuries were reported following the fire.

Bo helps teach youngsters about programming and is controlled with an i-Pad via a bluetooth-based remote control app. The global market for consumer robots was $1.6 billion in 2012, dominated by the task and entertainment segments, according to ABI Research, but this is expected to grow to $6.5 billion in 2017 with security and telepresence becoming more significant.

The town of Pillaro kicks off the Diablada with neighborhoods competing to bring as many people dressed as different characters that are part of the feast. Originally the devil costume was used to open up space to allow other participants to dance, but over the years the character gained popularity and became the soul of the feast.
